Peter Hildebrand started his own consulting business in 2006 after 30 years in corporate America working for insurance companies. Peter Hildebrand LLC assists law firms, policyholders, insurance and reinsurance companies, insurance agents, adjusting services, third party administrators and others with their insurance related matters. As both an attorney and a licensed insurance counselor, Peter has developed substantial knowledge and expertise in most areas of insurance. He has consulted or testified on matters of insurance coverage, claims administration, bad faith, regulatory and agency matters, insurance company operations and on a wide variety of other insurance related issues.

After starting his career as a trial attorney, Peter served as a senior claims officer for four different insurance companies during the last 25 years of his corporate career:

INSURANCE CONSULTING AND EXPERT WITNESS SERVICES

Peter has served as an expert witness in a diverse array of insurance and reinsurance matters. In addition to testifying on a variety of claims and legal issues relating to coverage, claim handling, and bad faith, he has extensive experience in primary-excess, environmental, construction, surety and professional liability matters. He has ample experience in testifying in depositions, hearings or trials and maintains a relatively equal balance in providing litigation consulting services and assisting on cases for both Plaintiffs and Defendants.

Peter also has insurance regulatory background including significant experience in drafting policy language and manuscript endorsements. He successfully completed the ten course curriculum to become a Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter and his CPCU and legal training have allowed him to examine the most complex commercial policies for coverage and/or ambiguities. He has regularly dealt with both commercial and personal lines coverage and claim handling issues including standard personal auto and homeowners, non-standard auto, commercial auto and trucking, uninsured/underinsured motorist matters and commercial property.

In conjunction with his consulting practice, Peter has been retained to complete attorney fee bill reviews, damages assessments, and claim audits. His company recently worked with an insurer to set up a claims handling program related to a book of construction defect claims. Some insurers have retained Peter to handle the negotiations on complex litigation for them in lieu of sending their own personnel.

MEDIATION AND ARBITRATION SERVICES

Since 2006, Peter has been a member of ARIAS, which is an insurance/reinsurance arbitration organization that provides the industry with qualified arbitrators and neutrals. His paper on Bad Faith and Reinsurance was well received at a coverage and bad faith seminar in Dallas. A copy is available upon request. Peter has been named as an arbitrator by insurance companies on a number of reinsurance matters in which the insurers successfully obtained their full reinsurance recovery in prompt fashion. He is also available to assist in attaining settlements through ADR, either as a mediator or arbitrator. During his career, Peter has been involved in several hundred successful mediations or arbitrations of complex cases nationwide.
